Success is just the starting line for what’s next

Ah, success, it feels good, doesn’t it? That moment when you reach a goal, land the big deal, or finally figure out how to make sourdough bread without it looking like a failed science experiment. But here’s the thing, success can also be sneaky. It can lull us into a cozy little comfort zone where we stop pushing, stop stretching, and stop creating.

From Management to Creation

After building something successful, there’s a natural tendency to shift from creating to managing. You see it in businesses, in careers, and in personal development. We hit a milestone, and instead of asking, What’s next?, we start fine-tuning, adjusting, and maintaining. Now, don’t get me wrong, maintenance is important. But let’s be real: managing isn’t the same as creating, and creation is where the magic happens.

Think about an artist. If Picasso had painted one masterpiece and then spent the rest of his life dusting it off and making sure the lighting was just right, we’d have missed out on the thousands of works that followed. Success is just the starting line for what’s next.

Challenge Your Comfort Zone

So, where have you gotten a little too comfortable? Maybe it’s in your career, your relationships, or even your daily routine. Maybe you’ve mastered the morning jog, but haven’t challenged yourself to run a little farther. Or maybe your business is thriving, but it’s been a while since you took a risk on something new.

This week, I challenge you to shake things up:

  1. Pick One Area That Feels “Easy”- It could be something at work, a personal goal, or even how you approach relationships.
  2. Set a Challenge or Introduce a Fresh Perspective- How can you bring back the energy of creation? Try a new skill, take a different approach, or set a new ambitious goal.
  3. Embrace the Discomfort- Growth is never cozy. It’s awkward, sometimes messy, and often full of oops, that didn’t go as planned moments. But that’s where real progress happens.

Look, I get it. Leaving a comfort zone is about as appealing as switching from sweatpants to jeans after a year of remote work. (or even 3 years post remote work) But staying too comfortable means you’re missing out on the excitement of what’s possible.

Success is not the end of the road; it’s the launching pad. So, what’s one step you can take this week to reintroduce the energy of creation in your life?

I’d love to hear about it, hit reply, and let me know what you’re shaking up this week. Let’s keep evolving together!
