You Move What You Measure

How many of you have goals that do not have measures? If you have a goal without a measure it is not a REAL goal, it’s a hope.

Goals have measures, whether its a by when or a #, some metric that is black and white, not left to emotions or feelings or interpretation.

Whenever I work with people one on one I always listen for what they are measuring. You move what you measure.

What do I mean by that?

If you say you want a happier marriage, how are you measuring that? Number of fights? Number of moments of laughter? # of date nights? # of moments of……let’s say intimacy per week?

If you say you want to have a breakthrough in your business, how are you going to measure that? Revenue per month? Number of clients? % of increase in sales? % of retention with your staff?

If you say you want a breakthrough in your well being, how are you measuring that? Number of hours a sleep per night? The number on the scale? % body fat? Increase in stamina? How many vegetables vs meats you eat? How many glasses of water you drink per day?

Many people are not clear about what they are using to MEASURE the breakthroughs they want to achieve and then end up unclear about what they are accomplishing.

When you create something you want, make sure to create measures because YOU MOVE WHAT YOU MEASURE.

If you want to have a breakthrough year in your finances, you have to get clear about the reality of your finances before you can come up with powerful measures. How much money do you have? How much do you spend each month? On what? How much do you make? What revenue streams exist?

Without being grounded in the reality currently anything you create will be based on a flimsy foundation.

In summary:

1. Get clear about what you want in what area.

2. Get clear about the reality in that area currently

3. Create measures that would appropriately represent what you are out to create

4. THEN TAKE ACTIONS TO MOVE WHAT YOU ARE MEASURING.
